Thing one: earning rank at RSP
In the Recruit Sustainment Program, the drills you attend between enlisting and shipping, cadre can promote recruits who demonstrate military skills: first aid, land navigation, drill and ceremony, the fundamentals. It is competitive, it is decided by your RSP cadre, and it rewards exactly the things you can start practicing now.
Thing two: rank for what you already have
Separately, Army regulation lets qualifications you bring with you affect your enlistment grade. College credits may qualify you for E-2 or E-3. JROTC years count. Eagle Scout and the Girl Scout Gold Award may qualify up to E-3. A bachelor's degree or qualifying civilian skills can mean E-4. Every one of these is verified by the Guard against your documents, which is one more reason the Zero Packet exists.
What to be careful about
Qualifications do not stack freely, program names and terms shift, and nothing here skips Basic. When someone quotes you a rank, the only version that counts is the one your recruiter puts on paper under current regulation.
How Drill Zero fits
Our Schoolhouse classes and PT sessions build the demonstrable skills RSP promotions reward, and your Zero Packet carries the transcripts and certificates that back your enlistment grade. We prep it, you own it, the Guard decides it.
